DARLOZ (1960–). - Lot 246
DARLOZ (1960–). Stanislas and the Parc de la Pépinière. Acrylic on canvas. H_80 cm W_120 cm. Darloz, a French-Canadian painter and photographer living in Nancy, grew up in Grenoble and spent many years in Canada; he reinvents the Art Nouveau legacy through a style he calls “Nouvel Art Nouveau,” blending exuberant chromatic energy, multiple layers of color that enrich both form and background, supple lines, vivid or implied perspective and chiaroscuro, and vibrant urban landscapes. Having exhibited for over thirty years in France and Canada—notably in Nancy, Vittel, Beaulieu-sur-Mer, Toronto, and in several Canadian galleries—Darloz also has a work in the museum collection at the International Museum of Naïve Art in Magog (Canada). His work, appreciated for its emotional power and its ability to re-enchant reality, captivates collectors and visitors alike with an instantly recognizable aesthetic that conveys a zest for life. This painting is set in a vibrant, almost urban atmosphere, reflecting the New Art Nouveau movement. The forms are dynamic, as if animated by the creative spirit that swept through Nancy at the turn of the 20th century. One can sense the spirit of artists’ studios and the boldness of motifs inspired by the plant world, yet here reimagined with a contemporary energy. The painting exudes a warm, colorful vitality reminiscent of the luminous storefronts on Avenue de la Garenne or the lavish ornamentation of the Villa Majorelle. It celebrates the convergence of tradition and modernity, of artistic heritage and freedom of interpretation.
