Extremely valuable and rare in the early 18th century, gilt bronze chandeliers are difficult to identify in early inventories, mainly because of the brevity of their descriptions. Nevertheless, the richness of the decoration and the quality of the chasing are sufficient to place our example in the line of models produced by André-Charles Boulle, combining the grandeur of royal taste with the vivacity of the second Louis XIV style.
A comparable example is in the collections of the Musée du Louvre in Paris, under reference OA 10513.
