H_30 cm W_40 cm Antonio Hugo Seguí (January 11, 1934 - February 26, 2022) was a leading Argentine artist, known for his diverse contributions to the art world, notably as a draughtsman, painter, engraver, book illustrator and sculptor . He spent much of his life in Paris, where he developed a unique style that often reflected the complexity of urban life through vivid, satirical imagery. Seguí's work is characterized by its colorful, graphic style, often reminiscent of the world of comic strips. His works frequently explore themes of modern urban life, incorporating touches of humor and horror. This duality is reflected in his depictions of authoritarian figures and the societal commentary they convey. He was known for using a variety of media, including charcoal, pastels and pen, to bring his artistic visions to life. Seguí began his artistic journey after being persuaded by his colleague Ernesto Farina to abandon a potential career as a lawyer. He initially explored Conceptual and Expressionist styles before refining his singular approach, combining humor and social criticism. His travels throughout Europe and Africa in the early 1950s, where he studied painting and sculpture in Italy and Spain, had a considerable influence on his artistic development. Antonio Seguí's work was widely collected and exhibited in art institutions around the world, consolidating his status as a master painter and printmaker. He died in Buenos Aires in February 2022, leaving behind a rich legacy that continues to resonate in contemporary art.
