Claude BONNEFOND (1868-1936). - Lot 84
Claude BONNEFOND (1868-1936). Regule mirror decorated with umbels. H_38 cm Claude BONNEFOND (1868-1936) was a French sculptor active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, mainly associated with the Art Nouveau movement. Born on March 28, 1868 in Mâcon, he died on February 1, 1936 in Argentan, where he lived until his death. Formed in the teeming artistic context of the late 19th century, Claude Bonnefond began exhibiting at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1892, and by 1894 was collaborating with the renowned École de Nancy, a major center of Art Nouveau. In particular, he worked for the Keller & Guérin manufactures in Lunéville, renowned for their ceramics and decorative objects. Bonnefond specialized in objets d'art décor, creating sculptures, vases, candlesticks, clocks and other mantelpieces. His style is typical of Art Nouveau, with flowing lines, plant forms and, above all, graceful female figures, often integrated into floral or symbolic compositions. He used materials such as regule (a lead-based alloy), bronze and patinated metal.
