Reliquary medallion with locks of hair - Napoleon III period - Lot 51
Reliquary medallion with locks of hair - Napoleon III period Domed glass oval medallion, framed in gilded wood, containing a delicate work of hair strands arranged in decorative volutes. This type of sentimental reliquary, typical of the Napoleon III period (circa 1850-1870), was intended to commemorate a loved one, often in a context of mourning or family remembrance. The finely arranged strands evoke nineteenth-century funerary art, where the hair, a symbol of eternal bonding, was used as a material of remembrance. Dimensions: 30 x 24 cm Condition: accidents (glass, damaged). Provenance: Estate of Docteur Marius Mozer by descent.
