H_80cm W_55cm D_50cm Gastone Rinaldi (1920-2006) was a renowned Italian designer, particularly famous for his sleek, innovative metal furniture. Born in Padua, he joined the family firm RIMA, specialized in the production of metal furniture, in 1948. Under his leadership, RIMA became a major player in post-war Italian design. Rinaldi distinguished himself by pioneering the use of tubular steel and foam upholstery in his designs, combining functionality with modern aesthetics. Among his most famous works is the DU30 chair (1953), which won the prestigious Compasso d'Oro in 1954. He was also responsible for the Saturno sofa (1958), now in the permanent collection of MoMA in New York, and the Arianna and Dafne chairs (1978-1979), both of which won the Compasso d'Oro in 1981. Throughout his career, Rinaldi collaborated with great names in architecture and design, such as Gio Ponti, Carlo Mollino and Marco Zanuso, and his creations regularly appeared in Domus magazine. In 1974, he founded a new company, Thema, which operated until 1989.
