Lucien GILBERT (1904-1988), (workshop) - Lot 20
Lucien GILBERT (1904-1988), (workshop) Nude Reclining Woman, Plaster H_60 cm L_80,5 cm Lucien Gilbert (1904-1988) was a renowned French sculptor, known for his high-quality animal works and sculptures. Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he distinguished himself by his ability to capture the movement and expressiveness of animals, particularly horses and dogs, in his sculptures. Lucien Gilbert began his artistic career with classical training, but soon turned to animal sculpture, a field in which he has made a name for himself. He sought to bring his subjects to life by exploring the dynamics of animal postures and gestures. His works are marked by a detailed realism, but also by a certain abstraction in the forms, which enabled him to convey a strong emotion through his sculptures. He mainly used bronze for his works, exploiting the material to accentuate movements and textures. His work shows a constant search for fluidity of form, particularly in his horse sculptures, which are among his most famous pieces.
