Moses and the tablets of the law (the Ten Commandments)
Moses receives the tablets and presents them to the Hebrew people, (in the presence of kneeling groups, confirmed by gestures of adoration.
The table of laws is stylized on the right.
The figures look up to a higher point outside the field, and the rocky landscape forms the stylized Mount Sinai.
It is famous in the biblical story for having been the place where Moses first met God at the burning bush ( Ex 3,1-4 , 17) where he received the Ten Commandments ( or Ten Words, Ex 20,1-17) as well as numerous other laws for the Hebrew people ( Exod 19,1-31,18 ).
Wide borders with neo-Flemish floral characters, decorated with garlands and foliate scrolls, set in a symmetrical composition of predominantly foliage, framed by two crenellated medallions with shells and floral compositions.
The spandrels are enriched with floral ornaments set in scrolls.
The inner frame is highlighted by a woven braid separating the main subject from the peripheral decoration.
