The 14th edition of our Classic Art auction features a selection of 274 lots, ranging from the Renaissance to Art Nouveau, spanning several centuries of French and Italian artistic creation.
Among the sale’s highlights is a remarkable Louis XIV-era Mazarin desk (lot 50), appraised by the Stéphane Pepe Firm. Made in Paris around 1685, this exquisite piece of cabinetry combines ebony, hornbeam, and boxwood veneers on an amaranth background. Its decoration, extending across all sides, consists of rich acanthus scrolls, rosettes, and volutes.
Furniture is also represented by a spectacular caryatid-adorned parlor set, crafted from finely carved and gilded wood, comprising two large wing chairs and a three-seater sofa. This Parisian Louis XVI-style ensemble is another highlight of the selection (lot 78).
Paintings play a significant role in this auction. Of particular note is a very delicate oil on panelby Alexandre François Louis de Girardin (1777–1848), *Les Plaisirs de la campagne* (lot 150), which was likely exhibited at the 1814 Salon under catalog number 53.
Two presumed portraits, depicting Mlle de La Vallière and Hortense Mancini, Duchess of Mazarin (lots 54 and 55), are attributed, respectively, to the circle of Pierre Mignard (1612–1695) and to a follower of Jacob Ferdinand Voet (1639–1689), respectively.
Another particularly remarkable work: *The Bather with a Shawl* by Carl Timoléon von Neff (1805–1876) (lot 264), a composition of striking presence, appraised by Quentin Bonnefoy—Cabinet Artéon.
Finally, the High Renaissance section, appraised by Ms. Laurence Fligny, features notably an imposing Virgin and Child in marble sculpted in the round, attributed to the workshop of Tommaso Orsolino (1587–1675), in Genoa, and dated to the last third of the 17th century (lot 19).
Through furniture, sculpture, and painting, this new Classical Art auction thus offers a journey spanning several centuries, bringing together collectible works, grand decorative pieces, and iconic works of French and Italian art
