Classical Art #13
Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.
26 Place Monge, Beaune
The 13th edition of our Classic Art auction features a selection of 276 lots ranging from the Renaissance to the final days of Art Deco, when the stylistic repertoire originating in the Renaissance found its last expression.
A truly classic auction, as a Mazarin desk (lot 38) by Aubertin Gaudron is the highlight of our sale. Appraised by the Stéphane Pepe Firm, this exquisite Parisian piece, dating from around 1675–1680, represents the pinnacle of the Louis XIV style in marquetry before the even richer style featuring tortoiseshell and brass by Pierre Gole and André Charles Boulle became definitively established.
Alongside this desk, a strong collection of furniture is presented, whose timeless classicism is balanced by a complete bedroom set by Gabriel Viardot (lot 252)
The graphic arts also reveal some fine discoveries, notably a spectacular portrait presumed to be of François II Gonzague by the circle of Pietro Facchetti (lot 34), as well as landscapes such as a moving example of Rosa Bonheur’s art (lot 204) along with a painting from her estate sale, as evidenced by a stamp. Appraisal conducted by Quentin Bonnefoy – Cabinet Artéon
The decorative arts focus notably on ceramics with a fine collection of 23 statuettes (lots 89 through 112) from Meissen, appraised by Ms. Aline Josserand.
Mr. Frank Kassapian has appraised a fine collection of carpets—both Eastern and Western, antique and modern, in small and large sizes—as well as two beautiful tapestries, including an exceptional Audenarde tapestry, remarkable for its architectural composition and the fresh, almost naturalistic rendering of its lush foliage
