Marked on the reverse in red: “Sèvres X” for Year X (September 23, 1801–September 22, 1802). Incised marks, including “DC” on one, for Descoins Charles, a turner active from 1776–1778 and 1780–1821.
Early 19th century.

(Wear to the gold).
These two fruit bowls most likely come from the set described as “Chinese black ground in gold,” purchased on 29 Germinal, Year 10 (April 19, 1802) by General Gabriel Marie-Joseph, Count of Hédouville (1755–1825), Minister Plenipotentiary and French Ambassador to Russia in Saint Petersburg from 1801 to 1804. Other sets featuring this same design—described in the Sèvres Manufactory’s sales records as “Chinese black ground with colored gold and platinum, enameled flowers”—were delivered: - The first set was sold on May 6, 1791, to Marquis Charles-Louis Huguet de Sémonville (1759–1839), Louis XVI’s ambassador to Genoa. - a service set delivered on April 4, 1792, to James Milmes, an English textile merchant and later a member of Parliament, - a set purchased at the end of 1794 by Citizen Pierre-Fédécie Empaytaz, director of the trading firm Empetaz et Compagnie and commercial agent in France for the King of Prussia (David Peters, op. cit., 2005, Vol. IV, 92–4, pp. 947–949, and Vol. V, 94–11, pp. 1053–55).
Several pieces from these various services are housed at the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the British Museum in London, and the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg.
