A very old, rare, and delicate FERAHAN MOUSTAHAFI carpet - Lot 65
A very old, rare, and delicate FERAHAN MOUSTAHAFI carpet
Persia. Circa 1860–70
Wool pile on a cotton backing.
A wide midnight-blue field covered with multicolored flowering branches, reminiscent of the so-called “Herati” pattern, serves as the backdrop for a champagne-colored, serrated oblong medallion, in which a ruby-red hexagon adorned with polychrome foliage and its leafy, arrow-shaped pendants takes center stage. The main brick-red border features an interlaced pattern of polychrome foliage interspersed with blooming floral bulbs. Inner ivory borders feature garlands and bands of small flowers. Two-tone, serrated highlights. Beautiful archaic style.
