KACHAN Rug (Iran) - Lot 40
KACHAN Rug (Iran) Third quarter of the 20th century, during the Shah’s reign. Wool pile on a cotton backing. Inspired by Omar Khayyam’s “Rubaiyat” (poems), the design is set in a “Garden of Eden.” Indeed, under a blue sky, sheltered by a fruit tree and a weeping willow, a noble lady lounges on a wicker basket adorned with a floral “mafrash,” listening to a saz player, kneeling, under the watchful eye of a servant in a colorful costume. Amid flower-lined banks, a poisonous stream flows at their feet, where ducks splash about. A wide ruby-red border, adorned with trees bearing blooming corollas, cypresses, and flowering stems where numerous birds rest, interspersed with multicolored landscape panels; flanked by two ivory-colored counter-borders featuring garlands of flowers. Exquisite poetry and sublime artwork. L_198 cm l_131 cm. Expert: Frank KASSAPIAN
