Highly original GHOUM silk carpet - Lot 22
Highly original GHOUM silk carpet
Iran. Shah era, circa 1965.
Silk pile on a silk backing.
A serrated old-pink field, filled with small flowers, small animals, gemstones, and stylized corollas, features a central medallion with an ivory-colored, crenellated, diamond-shaped gemstone border, with an anthracite center adorned with old-gold plant motifs. Two serrated old-gold “Faravahar” (symbols of Zoroastrianism), featuring feather-like elements and hexagonal panels set with anthracite-colored gemstones, frame the composition. An ivory border featuring a series of multicolored “double parrots,” flanked by “hunting dogs” in positive and negative relief. Old gold trim. Superb Caucasian “Kabristan” design.
