HOMER. Farnese Collection, after A carved white Carrara marble bust depicting the poet “Homer” on a pedestal with a square base. In the 17th-century style. H_43.5 cm Homer was an ancient Greek poet said to have lived in the 8th century B.C., born around 800 B.C. and died around 740 B.C. He is described as an aedus, a singing poet who accompanied himself on a musical instrument. Blind, he traveled throughout Ancient Greece reciting his poems. He is credited with the famous works *The Iliad* and *The Odyssey*, as well as numerous other tales. These two major works, recounting the Trojan War and the adventures of Odysseus on his return to Ithaca, had a major impact during Antiquity. Today, these texts are still studied and remain as fascinating as ever. Expert: Mr. Stéphane Pépe Expert: Stephane PEPE
