DARLOZ (born in 1960). - Lot 245
DARLOZ (born in 1960). Find Stanislas, Acrylic on canvas. H_120 cm W_80 cm. With certificate of authenticity. Darloz, a Franco-Canadian painter and photographer living in Nancy, grew up in Grenoble and spent many years in Canada; he reinvents the Art Nouveau legacy through a style he calls “Nouvel Art Nouveau,” blending exuberant chromatic energy, multiple layers of color that enrich both form and background, lines that are supple yet defined, vivid or implied perspective and chiaroscuro, and vibrant urban landscapes. Having exhibited for over thirty years in France and Canada—notably in Nancy, Vittel, Beaulieu-sur-Mer, Toronto, and in several Canadian galleries—Darloz also has a work in the museum collection at the International Museum of Naïve Art in Magog (Canada). His work, appreciated for its emotional power and its ability to re-enchant reality, captivates collectors and visitors alike with an instantly recognizable aesthetic that conveys a zest for life. In this reinterpretation of Place Saint-Epvre, Darloz allows the curves, colors, and motifs characteristic of the New Art Nouveau to take over the scene, transforming the landscape. Amid this decorative whirlwind, the statue of Stanislas is subtly concealed, blending into the arabesques and flashes of light. This visual game invites the viewer to scrutinize the canvas to find it. Here, the École de Nancy in its contemporary form becomes a playground for artistic hide-and-seek, where the attentive eye discovers what the first glance misses.
