CHEVIGNY CLAUDE
Until the French Revolution, Chevigny was based on rue de Cléry, where he produced very fine quality seats, with rigorous lines, very meticulous, simple but delicately sculpted. Chevigny worked for the Duc de Choiseul at the Château de Chanteloup, as well as for the Duc de Montmorency. For the former, he delivered a salon set of twenty-four gilded wood seats, carved with interlacing, which have since come into the possession of the Tours Chamber of Commerce. At New York's Metropolitan Museum is a curious, richly carved armchair with a square back and recesses. Chevigny also left chairs with lyre-shaped openwork backs. Finally, a charming little medallion armchair, a Master's model, in gilded wood carved with interlacing, acanthus leaves and rosettes, was sold at Hôtel Drouot on June 7, 1974, room 10.
