Ostrich egg mounted on a chased bronze base featuring two in - Lot 155
Ostrich egg mounted on a chased bronze base featuring two intertwined dolphins and engraved with a whale-hunting scene on an iceberg background. The upper part probably depicts a map of the Arctic, while the lower part is engraved with four masks alternating human faces and leonine heads. The scene is animated by three whalers, harpooning scenes on longboats led by numerous characters and whales diving, showing their baleen or being towed. Work from the 19th century. H_35 cm
