Hippolyte Camille Delpy (1842–1910) - Lot 228
Hippolyte Camille Delpy (1842–1910) Landscape at Sunset, after 1884 Oil on panel. H_41cm x W_71cm Oxidized varnish. Signed lower right; the artist’s monogram stamp on the back of the panel. Hippolyte-Camille Delpy was a student of Charles-François Daubigny, for whom he harbored an admiration that extended far beyond the duration of his apprenticeship and brought him closer to other admirers of the master, such as Camille Pissarro and Paul Cézanne. A highly talented painter, he stood at the crossroads of the Barbizon School and Impressionism. His stylistic similarity to certain works by Daubigny led several forgers to erase his signature and replace it with that of his master. To combat this practice, beginning in 1884, Delpy began affixing an intaglio mark on the back of his panels, as is the case with this one. Expert: Artéon Expert: Artéon
