AUBUSSON, Late 18th century - Lot 48
AUBUSSON, Late 18th century Aubusson tapestry panel Probably originally used to create the back of a salon sofa Silk and wool Beautiful polychromy Fresh colors. Verdure aux cerfs Deer hunting scene. Great decorative and emblematic theme. L_177 cm W_77 cm (Maintenance restorations) An aristocratic symbol, showing power, prestige and mastery of nature (under Louis XIV, it was a court ritual), the stag symbolizes the soul, purity or the spiritual quest. In the Christian tradition, it is associated with figures such as St. Hubert. The depiction in this panel is more of a decorative, aristocratic vision, the scene without hunters is softened, making it an elegant interpretation of La Chasse. The scene is framed by a rich border decorated with foliage, polychrome foliage and stylized rocaille elements. Expert : Franck Kassapian
