"Charles Walch's position appears to be highly original, as he was almost alone among the men of his time in singing the praises of happiness. For him, this happiness was founded on a love of nature, an admiration for flora and fauna, and a tenderness, full of gratitude for the modest joys of family life.
Based on reds and blues, but also featuring yellows and greens, and highlighting this gleaming chromaticism through the introduction of luminous whites and colorful blacks, the artist's harmonies are both a translation of the splendor of the universe and of existence, and of the fervor felt by the author at this double spectacle.
During his lifetime, Walch did not enjoy the glory that the future would bring him, for posterity has recognized in him one of the rare authentic painters of his generation."
- Bernard Dorival (curator at the Musée National d'Art Moderne), foreword to the Palais de l'Isle exhibition in Annecy in 1971.
Charles Walch's works can be found in the collections of the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris and the Musée d'Art Moderne et Contemporain in Strasbourg.
