Lucien BLUMER (1871-1947) Reunion of three paintings including : Sous-bois et rivière Oil on canvas, signed lower left. H_36 cm W_28 cm Scene with nuns Oil on panel, signed lower left. H_22 cm W_16 cm Landsberg ruin Oil on panel, signed lower left. H_16 cm W_24 cm Lucien Blumer played an important role in the artistic life of Strasbourg in the first half of the XXᵉ century. His work is characterized by a great diversity of subjects: portraits, genre scenes, urban or rural landscapes. In each of these areas, Blumer shows particular attention to the construction of the image. The compositions are carefully organized, often based on guiding lines that structure the space and guide the viewer's gaze. Blumer's painting is also distinguished by the quality of his pictorial material. His densely applied colors create vibrant surfaces in which light plays an essential role. This approach blends strong visual presence and formal legibility within his paintings. Alongside his work as a painter, Blumer plays an active role in Strasbourg's cultural life, contributing to the animation of artistic circles and the dissemination of art in the region. This involvement testifies to his conception of the artist as an active player in society. Most of his work is held by public institutions in Alsace, such as the Musée d'Art Moderne et Contemporain in Strasbourg, the Cabinet des Estampes et Dessins in Strasbourg and the Musée Historique in Haguenau.
