Robert KAMMERER (1870-1950) - Lot 44
Robert KAMMERER (1870-1950) View of Thann Oil on canvas, signed lower right. H_73 cm W_92 cm Missing Robert Kammerer's work oscillates between fidelity to academic traditions and openness to the new sensibilities of modern Europe. As a painter and decorator, he developed a body of work focusing on both the human figure and the landscape, in which he constantly sought to strike a balance between observation of reality and stylization. His training, nourished by artistic exchanges between Alsace, Germany and France, enabled him to integrate a variety of aesthetic influences. This plurality is reflected in his treatment of subjects: Kammerer attaches great importance to composition and picture structure, often favoring clear arrangements where figures fit harmoniously into space. His color palette is composed of soft tones that lend his works a peaceful atmosphere. The artist is also distinguished by his interest in the decorative dimension of painting. Some of his compositions reveal a desire to integrate the image into an architectural or ornamental whole, reflecting the influence of movements that, at the turn of the century, sought to bring the fine and applied arts closer together. Robert Kammerer's works are held in regional public collections such as the Musée d'Art Moderne et Contemporain in Strasbourg, the Musée Unterlinden in Clomar, the Musée des Amis de Thann and the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Mulhouse.
