On the back: "The number given by the artist at the foot of this original painting corresponds to that of the first edition of Confins maritimes published by Galilée".
A French painter born in Vannes, Brittany, Loïc Le Groumellec has made a name for himself since the 1980s with a singular approach that reconnects with the origins of painting. Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Rennes, he rejects the figurative and narrative tendencies of his generation to develop a refined, repetitive visual language centered on motifs drawn from archaeology and the Breton landscape: megaliths, houses, crosses and enigmatic signs. These forms, often executed in black lacquer or monochrome flat tints, reflect a quest for formal purity and spirituality, where the reduction of means becomes an instrument of visual and symbolic intensity. Confronting minimalist abstraction with references to Neolithic sites such as Gavrinis, Le Groumellec questions the meaning of creation and the essence of the pictorial sign, while anchoring his work in a thousand-year-old history of form. His paintings and "Écritures" series have been exhibited in numerous French and international institutions since his first solo show in 1983, placing his work at the heart of contemporary art concerns.
This original painting bears the number 10 and accompanies copy no. 10 of the first edition of the book.
The book's receipt is numbered and signed by the author and the artist.
