ROBERT MEYER (born 1940) - Lot 139
ROBERT MEYER (born 1940) Composition Oil on canvas, signed lower right, countersigned on the back and located in Menton H_ 29 cm W_ 23 cm Robert Meyer was born in Metz on May 10, 1940, into a family of Italian and Luxembourg origin. His father, a tenor by profession, died after the Second World War on his return from the concentration camps. After this family tragedy, Meyer moved with his mother to Cannes and then to Menton, where he began to develop his artistic vocation. Self-taught, he shaped his pictorial language in his Menton apartment, working and accumulating most of his works on the spot. To support his ailing mother, he sold some of his work to private individuals, but kept much of his studio collection strictly within the family for decades. It was not until 2023 that his son decided to entrust a significant portion of his studio to an art gallery in Nancy, exhibiting to the public pieces hitherto unseen outside the private circle.
