Geneviève ASSE (1923-2021) Sans-titre, 2004 Silkscreen in color, signed in pencil lower left and numbered. Limited edition of 100. H_23 cm W_11 cm Geneviève Asse (1923-2021) is a major French painter of the XXᵉ century, renowned for her poetic and lyrical abstraction, centered on color and light. Born in Brest (Brittany), she studied at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris after the Second World War, where she immersed herself in the modernist movements and pictorial avant-gardes of the time. Her work is characterized by a palette dominated by blue, which she saw as a color conveying silence, depth and meditation. Her canvases, often large-scale, explore the subtleties of light and space, creating an abstraction that evokes the sea, the sky and the cosmos. Geneviève Asse has exhibited regularly since the 1950s, in France and abroad, in prestigious galleries and museums. Her works are held at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Brest and in numerous private and public collections around the world.
