Roger Capron, born September 4, 1922 in Vincennes (France), is one of the most important French ceramists of the post-war period, whose work combines craft, design and contemporary creation.Trained at the Arts appliqués à l'Industrie in Paris from 1938 to 1943, he began teaching drawing at the same school after the war. His encounter with ceramics in the 1940s prompted him to change medium and, in 1946, settle in Vallauris, on the Côte d'Azur, then in the midst of a ceramics revival. In 1952, he bought a disused pottery in Vallauris and founded his own factory, Atelier Capron, where he initially produced utilitarian and decorative objects, before rapidly developing a range of vases, lamps, tiles and coffee tables adorned with graphic motifs and bright colors.During the 1950s and 1960s, Capron enjoyed international success, exhibiting in galleries and selling his creations in department stores, while winning several awards, including a gold medal at the Milan Triennale in 1954 and the Grand Prix International de la Céramique in 1970.
