Jan and Joël Martel (1896-1966) were twin French sculptors, major figures of the Art Deco movement. Born in Nantes, they almost always collaborated, making it difficult to distinguish between their individual contributions. Their style is characterized by geometric forms, stylized figures and a refined elegance, reflecting the Art Deco aesthetic of the interwar period. Their most famous works include the Fontaine du Soleil in Paris (1937) and several sculptures created for international exhibitions, notably the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes and the 1937 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes.
