Serge ZELIKSON (1890 - 1966) - Lot 83
Serge ZELIKSON (1890 - 1966) "Winged Woman Proof in dark patina bronze, on a marble base. Signed on the base Height: 17 cm (damaged marble) Serge Zelikson (1890-1966) was a sculptor, engraver and medalist of Russian origin (born in Polotsk, then Russian Empire, now Belarus), who moved to France in 1912 on a scholarship to study at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. A pupil of Paul Landowski and Henri Bouchard, he served in the French army during the First World War and became a French citizen around 1920. His studio was located at 5 rue Larrey, formerly Auguste Rodin's studio. Zelikson specialized in bronze sculptures, busts and animal subjects, with a style combining academic finesse and Art Deco aestheticism typical of the 1920s-1930s. His best-known works include nudes and dancers, groups such as Bateliers de la Volga and Les Damnés, and female busts in alabaster or marble. He exhibited regularly at the Salon d'Automne, Salon des Indépendants and Société des Artistes Français, as well as abroad, notably in London in 1921 at an exhibition of Russian artists.
