Quai de la Mégisserie in 1850
Watercolor, gouache and pencil on paper
H_ 34 cm, W_ 49 cm (as seen)
Cracked glass
Quai de la Mégisserie takes its name from the "mégissiers" craftsmen who lived there. They tanned sheep and goat skins for the shoe, glove and clothing industries, as part of the leather production process. Our watercolor illustrates a view of Paris before Prefect Eugène Haussmann's redevelopment work in the second half of the 19th century.
