André Lhote (July 5, 1885 - January 24, 1962) was an eminent French Cubist painter, known for his varied works, including figures, portraits, landscapes and still lifes. Born in Bordeaux, he trained as a woodcarver and sculptor before becoming a largely self-taught painter. Lhote's artistic style was influenced by Fauvism in its early stages, but he adopted Cubism around 1911, integrating its principles into his varied oeuvre. Beyond painting, he was also an influential teacher and art writer, making a significant contribution to the training of future artists.
