Gaston Suisse (1896-1988) was a major French artist of the Art Deco movement, renowned for his exceptional mastery of lacquer. Trained at the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs, he drew inspiration from Asian art, particularly Japanese, to create refined furniture, screens and decorative objects. His style is characterized by clean lines, the use of precious materials (lacquer, mother-of-pearl, gold) and stylized animal motifs, influenced by his travels in North Africa and Asia. He exhibited at the major salons of the day (Salon d'Automne, Salon des artistes décorateurs) and at the 1925 Exposition internationale des arts décoratifs in Paris.
