EDGAR BRANDT (1880-1960) Floor lamp in bronze with dark brown patina featuring a cobra standing on a woven basket. Antique alabaster basin Early edition cast iron. Stamped "E. Brandt". Circa 1930. H_ 165 cm D. bowl: 41.5 cm. ( Small accident on the edge of the bowl). Edgar Brandt was born in Paris in 1880 and died in 1960. He was one of the pioneers of the Art Deco style, which he marked with his wrought-iron creations, combining craftsmanship and modernity. Trained in the decorative arts, he began his career in the early 20th century, interrupting his work during the First World War to design military equipment, then returning to art with an innovative technical and aesthetic eye. In 1920, he founded Maison Brandt, specializing in wrought iron. He made a name for himself worldwide with his participation in the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, notably with the monumental Porte d'Honneur. His style blends floral motifs, geometric shapes and classical elegance. His works adorn many buildings and are today housed in major museums such as the Musée d'Orsay and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Edgar Brandt remains a major figure in 20th-century decorative arts.
