Manufacture de Cytère in RAMBERVILLERS. - Lot 68
Manufacture de Cytère in RAMBERVILLERS. Large flamed stoneware vase. Marked under the base. H_31 cm The Manufacture de Cytère in Rambervillers, in the Vosges region, is a former artistic ceramics factory famous for its flamed stoneware with metallic highlights, now emblematic of the Art Nouveau style in Lorraine. Run from 1892 by engineer and ceramist Alphonse Cytère (1861-1941), the factory was initially dedicated to the production of stoneware pipes for the sewage industry. Under Cytère's impetus, the company was transformed into a veritable art factory, renowned for its decorative stoneware pieces, glazed using innovative high-fire techniques. The creations are distinguished by flamed glazes, often with changing reflections of green, bronze or violet, giving the objects a lively, organic appearance. Cytère worked with a number of renowned artists associated with the École de Nancy, including Jacques Grüber, Louis Majorelle, Charles Virion and Charles Catteau. Together, they designed shapes inspired by nature, sometimes highly sculptural, which would later evolve into the Art Deco style.
