Edmond Louyot (1861-1920) was a painter from Lorraine renowned for his genre scenes and landscapes, particularly those inspired by the rural life of his native region. Born in La Lobe, a commune of Arry in Moselle, he grew up in a context marked by the annexation of Lorraine by the German Empire in 1871. Despite this complex political context, he pursued his passion for drawing and won a scholarship in 1884 to attend the Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf, then the Munich School of Fine Arts. He exhibited his work in several cities in Germany and France, making a living from his painting. Today, his works are housed in museums in Europe and the United States, including the Musée de la Cour d'Or in Metz and the Flensburg Museum. Some of his work was brought together at the Musée Départemental Georges-de-La-Tour in Vic-sur-Seille in 2004. An exhibition was dedicated to him in late 2014 - early 2015 at the Stadtmuseum in Deux-Ponts (Zweibrücken). He died in La Lobe on January 17, 1920.
Provenance: Estate of Docteur Marius Mozer by descent.
