A.M LAUZET. lavender field. oil on canvas, signed lower left. H_54 cm L_73 cm Marie Auguste Lauzet (1863-1898), a painter and engraver born in Marseille, is best known for his etchings inspired by Impressionists such as Monet, Renoir and Degas. In 1892, he published a major collection disseminating Impressionist art. A friend of Van Gogh, he attended his funeral and shared his life with the Symbolist painter Jeanne Jacquemin. Ill, he settled in Aubagne, where he died at the age of 35.
