Evariste FRAGONARD (1780-1850) after "L'amant victorieux" Co - Lot 69
Evariste FRAGONARD (1780-1850) after "L'amant victorieux" Color engraving with oval view, engraved by Pierre Adrien Le Beau (1744 - 1817) in 1785. H_35 W_26 cm with view Capizucchi di Roma. Enhanced engraving. Dimensions: 14.5 x 11.5 cm (with view). Gilded wood frame. (Accidents) This engraving represents the coat of arms of the Capizucchi family, a Roman noble family. Considered one of the oldest families in Rome, it was deeply rooted in the Roman nobility thanks to the bravery of many of its members. The family died out in the 17th century and the name disappeared in 1813. The Capizucchi family lived in the rione Campitelli, at the foot of the Capitoline Hill, where they also built their palace. The palace still exists, situated between two squares, Piazza Campitelli and Piazza Capizucchi, named after the Capizucchi family.
