Jean BOLOGNE (1529-1608) (After) The Abduction of the Sabine - Lot 10
Jean BOLOGNE (1529-1608) (After) The Abduction of the Sabine Women Bronze sculpture with brown patina. The Sabine, with her abundant beard, is crushed between the Roman's powerful legs, her face frightened and helpless, as she stretches out her hand in an imploring gesture. The captor with the curly hair and short beard, firmly planted on his legs, looks intently at his captive, as if to ensure he has made the right choice. Sabina, her curly hair encircled by a narrow headband, cries out in despair as she reaches for her open hand. Signed: JEAN BOLOGNE ( on the terrace) Inscription: Cie des Bronzes Bruxelles ( on the terrace) Bruxelles. 19th century. Circa 1875 H_90 cm The Abduction of the Sabines (1579-1583) is a sculpture by Giambologna exhibited in the Loggia dei Lanzi in Florence, Italy. This work is a technical feat: the artist placed three figures on a single base, their bodies organized under a serpentine line. A whole series of gyratory, tension-free movements can be seen, even in Sabina, kidnapped by the Romans. This group is a work of the Mannerist artistic movement. Expert: Mr. Stéphane Pépe
