Mathieu Matégot (1910-2001) was a Hungarian-born, naturalized French designer and decorator. After studying at the Budapest School of Fine Arts, he moved to Paris in 1931 and worked in various fields, including theater decoration. During the Second World War, he discovered perforated sheet metal, which he later used to design innovative furniture, such as the Nagasaki chair and the Bagdad lamp. Matégot is also known for having invented the "rigitulle" sheet metal bending process, which reinforces the strength of materials.
In the 1950s, he diversified into abstract tapestry. Awarded several prizes, Matégot is recognized as a major figure in 20th-century French design, combining innovative techniques with artistic sensibility.
