Emmanuel TEMPLEUX (1871-1957)
Jura landscape
Oil on panel
Signed lower right
Dimensions: H. 46 x W. 65 cm
A French painter from Arbois in the Jura, Emmanuel Templeux is part of the Jura landscape tradition, strongly influenced by Gustave Courbet and Auguste Pointelin, of whom he claims to be a disciple. Attached to his native region, he devotes most of his work to depicting local landscapes - forests, lakes, mountains and rural scenes - often using a palette knife technique, giving his canvases a rich, expressive texture.
His work, both realistic and poetic, bears witness to an acute sensitivity to light and the seasons, capturing with melancholy a changing world where nature and the human presence are in intimate dialogue.
Alongside his painting activities, Templeux played a central role in the cultural life of Arbois: he was curator of the municipal museum and helped found the Maison d'art Sarret de Grozon in 1934. He was actively involved in the preservation of the region's heritage and cultural development.
His works are held in several regional museums, including those in Arbois, Salins-les-Bains, Morez and Gray.
