Important KAZAK carpet (Caucasus-Armenia), late 19th century.
Technical characteristics: Wool velvet on wool foundation
An emerald-green field sown with small symbols and animals supports five main medallions in a lozenge shape with multicolored hooks. They are adorned with flamboyant cruciform plant compositions and scolopendras framing entomological forms. The main orange border features a succession of medallions with small polychrome Medesian stars, flanked by two two-tone counter-borders with sawtooth and chess pieces. Two-tone highlights. Dated 1889(?) and written Abjad. The woven date reveals the Armenian origin of this rug. Beautiful palette and graphics.
