ROLLIN (Charles) - De la Manière d'enseigner et d'étudier les belles-lettres, par rapport à l'esprit et au cœur. Paris, Henée et Billois, 1805; in-8, approx. 550 pp. per volume, bound in full glazed calf by Bradel, decorated smooth spines, brown morocco title page, gilt edges, boards stamped with a medallion: Prix du concours général de l'Académie de Paris. All 4 volumes. Charles Rollin was a historian of the second half of the 18th century, who studied theology at the Sorbonne, replacing his professor within a few years. He later became rector of the University of Paris. Charles Rollin is best known for his Histoire romaine, but was also a supporter of Port-Royal. His text De la Manière d'enseigner et d'étudier..., advocating the more frequent use of French in studies, is often referred to as Traité des Etudes. It was highly regarded at the time, and was reprinted until the mid-19th century. Very good condition. Expert : M. Philippe HENRY
