PASCAL (Blaise) - Pensées de M. Pascal sur la religion. Amsterdam, Par La Compagnie, 1774; in-12, XXXIV-420 pp. bound in full contemporary calf, spine with 5 ornamented bands, edges speckled, one section detached. Pascal's famous work in defense of Antoine Arnauld and Jansenism, which was struggling against the Jesuits at the time. The struggle resulted in Antoine Arnauld's condemnation for heresy, the banning of Port-Royal and exile for most of its members.
