[CAMBOUT DE PONTCHÂTEAU (Sébastien Joseph du)] - La morale pratique des jésuites. Cologne, Chez Gervinus Quentel, 1669; in-12, XX-287 pp, bound in full contemporary calf, smooth spine decorated, gilt edges, no title page, title page restored. Violent pamphlet against the Jesuits, using every rhetorical and historical means to minimize the value and role of the Society of Jesus. The history of the order is observed and deliberately recast to convince readers that the Jesuits are harmful to Christ and holy religion. He also explains that their long history is nothing but a series of intrigues and power grabs. The text also deals with the order's actions in Japan and other foreign countries where Jesuits have set up missions. Consultant: Mr Philippe HENRY.
