Hector Guimard was a French architect and designer born in Lyon on March 10, 1867 and died in New York on May 20, 1942. Best known as one of the leading figures of the Art Nouveau movement, which emphasized organic forms and complex patterns, Guimard's work is characterized by its decorative style and innovative use of materials. He quickly made a name for himself with the design of the Castel Béranger, recognized as the first Art Nouveau apartment building in Paris. His designs for Paris metro stations between 1898 and 1900 are particularly emblematic, with elegant wrought-iron structures that have become synonymous with the city's architectural identity.
Throughout his career, Guimard's prolific output encompassed not only architecture, but also interior design and the decorative arts, leaving a lasting imprint on the aesthetic landscape of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
