Léopold Poiré was a French photographer, painter and engraver, born in Metz on June 23, 1879, and died in Nancy on June 18, 1917.
Training and career. Poiré began his artistic career as an apprentice in Jean-Louis Graffe's studio in Metz at the age of 13. He developed a passion for the city of Metz, which has profoundly influenced his work. In addition to photography, he has also devoted himself to engraving, producing works that bear witness to his talent and artistic sensibility.
Léopold Poiré is best known for his etchings and photographs, which capture scenes of everyday life and landscapes in his region. His work was particularly influenced by the events of the First World War, during which he documented the reality of war through his art.
Despite his untimely death at the age of 37, Poiré left a lasting impact on regional art, and his works continue to be studied and exhibited. His diary, written in 1917, offers a glimpse into his view of the events of his time, adding a personal dimension to his artistic legacy.
