BITTER Ary Jean Léon (1883-1973). - Lot 252
BITTER Ary Jean Léon (1883-1973). "Doe and fawns". Green patina bronze subject signed on the base. Cast by Susse frères Paris. Dimensions: 28 x 13.5 cm. Ary Jean Léon Bitter (1883-1973) was a leading French sculptor known for his expressive, detailed works in bronze. He was born in Marseille, France , and began his artistic training at the Beaux-Arts de Marseille in 1895 under Émile Aldebert. Bitter showed exceptional talent early on, winning first prize for sculpture in 1900 and receiving commendations for sculpture and design in 1901. In 1902, he moved to Paris on a scholarship from the city of Marseille, where he studied in the studio of Louis-Ernest Barrias. His career blossomed when he became known for his ability to capture the essence of his subjects, particularly in animal sculptures. One of his most remarkable works is "Elephant with calf", which illustrates his talent for depicting the protective nature of animals. Bitter's works often reflect a loose impressionism and rough handling of materials, adding a sense of intimacy and connection to the viewer.
