MELAYER carpet (Persia), late 19th century Technical features: Wool velvet on cotton backing. A navy field with vegetal lacework hosts a mosaic-like sowing of small multicolored floral compositions. Two abraded brick counter-borders with garlands of florets and an outer pistachio border with undulating stems frame the main ivory border, with a succession of blossoming corollas on polychrome flower stems.
