Pair of wide armchairs with Queen-size backs and frames in m - Lot 91
Pair of wide armchairs with Queen-size backs and frames in molded, carved and gilded beechwood decorated with stylized flowers and foliage. The armrests have removable cuffs and console-shaped supports. The curved belt rests on cambered feet with foliate scrolls. Lampas cover in brocaded silk with polychrome flowers on a red background. Paris. Louis XV period, circa 1750-1760. An armchair stamped C. L. BURGAT (under the belt). Dimensions : 106 x 73 x 60 cm. Our model is very similar to a pair of Louis XV armchairs sold on December 7, 1976 by Mes Laurin-Guilloux-Buffetaud-Tailleur in Paris. Claude Louis Burgat is renowned for his production of high-quality Louis XV chairs. On wide, flat-backed armchairs, often with frames, he applied a deep, incisive sculpture composed of flowers and rocaille motifs. Expert : Stéphane Pépe
