BAO-TAO carpet (China), late 19th century, early 20th century Dimensions: 350 x 275cm. Technical features: Wool velvet on wool foundation. A royal blue field supports a medallion with a floral composition, perched by two doves. It is framed by flowering stems and lucky bats. Four flower scroll spandrels embellish the whole. A Greek-style counter-border and another with a string of pearls flank the main ivory border with stylized plant foliage. Navy braid.
